Why we call this our third life

We’re Vincent and Pip — two sixty-somethings who retired in 2025 and decided not to settle into the armchair. Instead, we bought time on the road.

This is Our Third Life. Not an ending, but a deliberate shift. The first life was youth and apprenticeships. The second was work, family, and keeping the wheels turning. The third is what we have now: space to live differently, slowly, and deliberately.

We travel in a motorhome, sometimes off-grid, sometimes on official sites. Our black Labrador, Scylla, comes with us — her needs shape our route as much as maps or ferry bookings. Pip brings the historian’s eye, Vincent brings the chef’s pans and the camera, and there’s a fourth traveller too: an AI partner that remembers, questions, and helps us shape this record.

This blog is where the practical and the personal meet. You’ll find travel notes, reflections, systems we’ve tested, food we’ve cooked, mistakes we’ve made, and the small stories that add up to a life on the move.

Europe is next. But wherever we are, Our Third Life is about more than miles. It’s about living well — physically, emotionally, developmentally, and spiritually — in the time we have.
